Vancouver

Canada · Visited: Grew up here; return most years

Where the archive's oldest files come from — the family computer, the three-megapixel camera, the school gym, the community centre court with lights on a timer.

Vancouver is filed under both PLACES and MEMORY, because at this point the two are inseparable. The view of the mountains is something I stopped noticing while living there and cannot stop noticing now. The smell of a wet cedar fence is an ongoing reference for the scent development file, to the mild confusion of everyone involved.

The court behind the community centre remains the standard against which all other courts are measured. The double rim is gone. Progress is real.
